Fortified for the Future:  A Day of Encouragement, Connection and Shared Purpose

There was a strong sense of optimism and community as board members, school councillors, school leaders and chaplains from across the Anglican Schools Corporation (TASC) gathered at Oran Park Anglican College on Saturday 17 October.

Designed to bring together those who govern, lead and minister within our schools, the conference created space for meaningful fellowship and rich conversation. Throughout the day, participants explored how Anglican schools can continue to lead faithfully, deliver high-quality education and share the hope of the gospel in an increasingly dynamic and complex world.

Grounded in Hope

The day began with an address from Archdeacon Simon Flinders, where participants were reminded that at the heart of Christian education is a commitment to nurturing young people through the compassion, grace and love of Jesus. It was a powerful reminder of the mission that unites every Anglican school across the Corporation and established a clear vision for the day ahead.

Embracing New Challenges with Wisdom

A highlight of the conference was Stephen Driscoll’s keynote, Thinking Biblically About Artificial Intelligence.

As AI continues to transform the way we live and learn, Driscoll challenged attendees to consider how Christians can engage thoughtfully and faithfully with these technologies. His presentation explored what it means to live for Jesus in a world where humans, made in God’s image, increasingly coexist with intelligent machines made in our image.

A key takeaway was the importance of equipping students not only to use emerging technologies, but to do so wisely, ethically and in ways that honours God and serves others.

Meeting Students Where They Are

Gillian Davis, TASC Christian Ministry Advisor, got to the heart of why we work in Christian education: to share the gospel with young people.

Drawing on her extensive experience in Christian ministry and education, Gillian encouraged attendees to consider the diverse backgrounds, experiences and worldviews present within today’s classrooms. Her thoughtful and practical approach highlighted the importance of understanding students’ stories so that educators can authentically share the story of Jesus with grace and relevance.

Creating Cultures of Peace

Bruce Burgess, Founding Director of PeaceWise, challenged participants to consider the role of peacemaking within school communities.

His message resonated strongly, with attendees encouraged to view peacemaking as more than a conflict-resolution tool. Instead, he encouraged schools to be strategic and proactive in building healthy, Christ-centred school cultures where relationships can thrive.

Learning Together

One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the opportunity for schools to learn from one another.

Through small-group discussions, the community shared experiences, ideas and practical strategies for addressing common opportunities and challenges. These conversations reinforced the strength of the Corporation’s network and demonstrated the collective wisdom that exists across our schools.

Strengthened for What Lies Ahead

Fortified of the Future reinforced the importance of remaining firmly grounded in Christ while thoughtfully engaging with the opportunities and challenges of the world around us.

Thank you to our hosts Oran Park Anglican College for such a warm welcome, and for all participants for their willingness to share ideas and perspectives that make us stronger together.
